Here are the words that I chose to use in the senryu.
カレーライス: curry rice
ニューヨーク: New York
コーヒー: coffee
They are all loanwords.
For me it seems like loanwords are easier to play around with than katakana from different categories such as onomatopoeia or emphasis. And the reason seems that loanwords which are just daily used words can flow in the sentence while onomatopoeia or emphasis stands out from everything else.

I also cannot wake up without coffee... it's become a terrible cycle of dependency.
